In Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria, a butcher called Usman Buda was beaten to death. This happened after someone said he had insulted the Prophet Muhammad. The fight happened at the main market for selling meat on Sunday morning.
What Witnesses Say
According to Daily Trust, Buda was arguing with another man at the market. Things got worse after Buda was said to have spoken badly about the Prophet Muhammad.
An eyewitness told Daily Trust: “Our leaders tried to save him. They couldn’t stop the crowd. At first, they saved him and hid him. But they were overpowered.”
Sadly, the crowd of other butchers beat Buda to death. The police came later and found his body.
More About Buda
Buda was from Tambuwal area but lived in Gidan Igwe in Sokoto North. He was known for selling cow parts at the Sokoto Fish and Vegetables Market.
People who knew Buda are surprised about what happened. A neighbour named Malam Yusuf said:
“Usman was very religious. He belonged to Izala sect. We often prayed together. I don’t believe he would insult the Prophet.”
Police Are Looking Into It
The police in Sokoto confirmed the incident. They arrived at the scene around 9:20 am, but the crowd had already left.
The police said:
“We got a call that Usman Buda had been attacked by a crowd because he insulted the Prophet Muhammad. When we got there, the crowd was gone and Buda was unconscious. We took him to the hospital, but he was later confirmed dead.”
The police are now trying to find the people who attacked Buda.
More Attacks Like This
Sadly, this is not the first time something like this has happened. Last year, a student named Deborah Samuel was beaten and killed by her school mates. They said she had also insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
MandyNews is following these stories closely. We believe that everyone should respect each other’s beliefs. We hope that Nigeria can be a place where people of all religions can live together in peace.
