LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lekki-Ajah chevron in Lagos’s south-east is becoming a hotspot for mob violence and increased lawlessness, as evidenced by the latest set ablaze of a MACK truck, which was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a commercial motorcyclist and one other.

The truck was reportedly on its lane on the Lekki-Epe expressway when a commercial motorcycle driving against traffic (one way) collided with it, instantly killing the motorcyclist.

The two victims are yet to be identified, but the incident sparked a devastating riot in the area.

The incident happened on Tuesday, March 15, in the late afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was riding towards EPE from the right side with someone else in the back at the time of the incident.

“Someone just called me to inform me that there’s a riot going on around Chevron toll. A truck hit & killed a bike guy, who was driving against traffic (one way). Youths went on rampage & burned the truck down. Police & Army arrived, youths engaged them in a fight. Shots fired,” an eyewitness stated.

The truck’s unidentified driver fled the scene for fear of being attacked by sympathizers.

The driver’s actions prompted a swarm of unknown individuals, including motorcyclists, to set fire to the truck.

At the time of writing, a riot is taking place on Oluwanishola Westbound. Motorists are advised to take the Chevron alternative road until the Nigeria police have taken control of the situation.
