Aliko Dangote has completed the world’s largest urea fertilizer plant, which cost $2.5 billion. President Mohammadu Buhari officially commissioned it today, Tuesday, March 22, 2022, in Lagos.

The plant is located on 500 hectares of land in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, Nigeria.
During its construction, the complex provided approximately 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in all categories; an additional 5,000 jobs within the community; and 500 permanent jobs.
Dangote Fertiliser will assist Nigeria in retaining $125 million in import substitution and providing $625 million in exports of fertiliser plant products.
With Nigeria estimated to require 5 to 7 million metric tonnes of fertiliser per year and the country’s current level of fertiliser consumption of 1.5 million metric tonnes, the Dangote Fertiliser Complex was established to produce 3 million metric tonnes of urea fertiliser per year in phase 1.
Dangote Fertiliser collaborates with Farmer Associations, Corporate Farms, NPK Blenders, NGO/development partners, and State Governments throughout Nigeria, as well as governments throughout Africa and beyond, to improve soil and farm yields in a sustainable manner.

Halder Topsoe technology is used in two 2,200 MTPD ammonia plants.
Snamprogetti technology is used in two 4,000 MTPD melt urea plants.
Uhde technology is used in two 4,000 MTPD urea granulation plants.
A captive power plant with three steam turbine generators each with a capacity of 40 MW, for a total capacity of 120 MW.
3 auxiliary boilers with a total capacity of 200 TE for 40 ATA steam generation.
