Hundreds of students from the University of Benin have pulled out from their various locations into the school’s main gate to protest against the ongoing ASUU strike.
The ASUU strike protest in Uniben – which originated on the Lagos Benin Express Road – began as a campaign to prevent the Academic Staff Union of Universities from striking.
The University of Benin’s main entrance was packed with students of both genders chanting solidarity songs and pleading with the government and ASUU to halt the strike.
The first day of the Benin student protest was spectacular. It was unmistakably different from EndSARS in 2020. People gathered on the streets throughout the morning and afternoon, waving flags and signs, singing, chanting, and even playing on the roads.
