Here is a fact check on a rumour spread on social media that Nigerian minister of information, Lai Mohammed said the federal government has disbursed over 100 billion Naira to poor Nigerians and vulnerable persons affected by the Lockdown all over the country.

Did Lai Mohammed Said No Nigerian Is Hungry, We Have Disbursed 100 Billion To Poor Nigerians?

Claim:

“The minister of information in the federal republic of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed has responded to Nigerians complaining of hunger said the federal government has disbursed over 100 billion Naira to poor Nigerians and vulnerable persons affected by the Lockdown all over the country,” said af.feednews.EU8LCzsXsAURLEj

What is true:  The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has decried the deluge of fake news “distracting” the Federal Government in the fight against COVID-19 across the country.

Speaking during a briefing on Monday by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mohammed lamented that there are people who keep distracting the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in curtailing coronavirus.

Citing an instance, the minister said: “The latest of this is the claim that I said there is no hunger in the land and that the Federal Government has made available N100billion to Nigerians. It is fake. There is no time I said it or anybody in the Task Force said so, Channels TV reports.

What is false: The minister never said that there is no hunger in the country neither did he said they have disbursed 100 billion to poor Nigerians.
