At least 50 people were killed and numerous more were critically injured in mass shootings at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, in a well-planned and unusual atrocity that devastated the normally tranquil state.
The attack happened at 10:30 a.m. local time on Sunday, when the church was packed with worshippers.
According to the reports, the gunmen opened fire on worshipers with live rounds before detonating a bomb that had been planted in the church.
The event was reported to the Peoples Gazette by Olayemi Adeyemi, a member of the Ondo House of Assembly who represents the constituency where the attack was carried out.
