It was a shocking scene in the Mpaha Health Zone of the Central Gonja District in the Savannah Region in Ghana when a beloved senior registered nurse was found hanging from a tree behind the Kpasera CHPS Compound.
Atinga Aniyiri David, who had been working at the facility for the past two years, had taken his own life after a disagreement with his girlfriend who threatened to leave him.
According to reports, the nurse was unable to cope with the girlfriend’s ultimatum, leading him to take such drastic measures.
The house of representative member for the area, Japo Mohammed, was informed of the incident and quickly contacted the police in Mpaha.
David was well known in the community, having worked at the Mpaha Health Center prior to his transfer to Kpasera CHPS Compound. At the time of the incident, the in charge of the facility and another staff member were not present.
The police are investigating the matter, and the body has been transported to the Damongo Government Hospital for an autopsy and preservation. The sudden loss of a respected and dedicated nurse has left the community in mourning and seeking answers.
This tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of seeking help and support in times of personal difficulty, and the devastating consequences that can come from ignoring mental health struggles. May David rest in peace.
