Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has asked his citizens for assistance in pleading with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to allow classes to resume.
He made the appeal on Monday while in Daura, Katsina State, and also told the leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that enough is enough.
Mr. Buhari urged the Union to reevaluate their stance on the ongoing strike, expressing concern that the break will have long-term effects on families, the educational system, and the nation’s future development.
The 79-year-old president said this while hosting legislators, political leaders, and some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at his home town.
He claimed that the strike had already had an impact on the psychology of parents, students, and other stakeholders, bringing up numerous moral issues that already cried out for attention.
“We hope that ASUU will sympathise with the people on the prolonged strike. Truly, enough is enough for keeping students at home. Don’t hurt the next generation for goodness sake,” he said.
In the now-viral video, Buhari also requests that any Nigerians who know an ASUU member plead with them to return to school.
