Former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has met with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid speculation about him joining the party to run for the 2023 presidential election, the Vanguard reports.

Why: A source told Vanguard News that Mr. Jonathan’s talks with Abdullahi Adamu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) focused on the ruling party and how he could be the flag bearer.

An expression of interest and nomination form were purchased for him on Monday, May 9.

It has been reported by loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that he is now a member of the party.

On the late night of Monday, the former president rejected the N100 million nomination form and declared that he is not a member of the APC.

Later that night, the Bayelsa-born politician convened in Adamu’s home behind closed doors.

Mandy News has learned that little progress has been made on how the All Progressives Congress (APC) can make Jonathan its flag bearer in order for the party to continue ruling beyond 2023.

According to Vanguard news source, the discussion in Abuja lasted between 9 and 10 p.m. in order to iron out some kinks in Jonathan’s effort to fly the party’s presidential flag in next year’s election.

Speculation is widespread that Goodluck Jonathan’s denial of the APC and the N100 million form was owing to the zealous efforts of his core supporters in the People Democratic Party, PDP, who had done everything possible to keep him away from the ruling party due to its past track record.

According to Vanguard news, the former president had planned to accept the nomination form and meet with the APC leadership since Sunday morning, but was heavily persuaded by his ‘close caucus buddies’ to put the action on hold and remain in the PDP even if he was not actively involved in the party.

We hope they can work out their differences amicably. Don’t die in their conflict because politicians don’t have the people’s best interests at heart.
