Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has emerged as the winner of the 2023 presidential election in Nasarawa State, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Obi, who contested on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), polled 191,361 votes to defeat his closest rival, former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 172,922 votes. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 147,093 votes.
The election was keenly contested by the three major parties, with Obi and Tinubu engaging in a fierce battle for the state’s coveted presidential votes. The victory of Obi, who is popularly known for his fiscal policies and development-oriented leadership, has been attributed to his grassroots campaigns, his popularity among the youth, and his track record of performance while serving as governor.
The collation of the results was marked by tension and anxiety, with supporters of the three parties anxiously waiting for the final outcome. However, the process was peaceful and orderly, with no reports of violence or disruption of the electoral process.
The result of the Nasarawa State presidential election is expected to have a significant impact on the overall outcome of the 2023 presidential election, with analysts predicting a close race between the major parties.
