In a move that is sure to ruffle feathers, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of Nigeria’s presidential election released so far by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). According to the PDP, its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has garnered more votes than his All Progressive Congress (APC) counterpart, Bola Tinubu, based on the results at the disposal of the party.
In a strongly worded statement titled “PDP To INEC: Halt Announcement Of Manipulated Results Now, Electoral Commission Pushing Nigerians To The Wall”, the PDP’s national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused INEC of manipulating the election results and called for transparency in the process.
“As a creation of the law, the electoral body must obey the law,” Ologunagba said in the statement. “We are calling on INEC to immediately halt the announcement of manipulated results and ensure transparency in the process. The commission is pushing Nigerians to the wall with its actions, and we will not stand idly by and watch as our democracy is subverted.”
The PDP’s rejection of the election results is sure to create controversy in Nigeria, which has a history of disputed election results. The country has been plagued by political instability and violence, and many fear that the rejection of the results could lead to further unrest.
As of the time of writing, it remains unclear what action the PDP will take in response to the election results. However, with tensions running high and the country on edge, all eyes will be on Nigeria in the days and weeks ahead.
