Rishi Sunak has become the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
On Monday, October 24, Rishi Sunak was elected as the new prime minister of the United Kingdom.
After his rival, Boris Johnson, withdrew from the race, Sunak was the only contender to win enough votes in the internal party elections to become the leader of the Conservative party.
Liz Truss of Britain announced her resignation as prime minister and head of the Conservative Party on Thursday, October 20, restarting the race for the position.
The last election was scheduled for September 5th, which was just over a month ago.
Before Rishi Sunak to be regarded as prime minister, King Charles III of England must still extend an invitation; however, this process is only considered a formality.
One of the front-runners in the contest, Johnson, realized he could no longer unify the party following one of the most volatile periods in British political history and decided not to run.
Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the House of Commons in Parliament, was the other potential candidate, but she withdrew her name from consideration minutes before the announcement because she lacked the necessary minimum of 100 backers.
