It is with great sadness that the music community and fans of South African rapper AKA mourn his passing.
Tragically, the rapper was shot and killed outside of the Durban restaurant “Wish on Florida” where he had been enjoying a meal with friends just hours prior.
A video of AKA’s last moments at the restaurant has gone viral, showcasing the rapper in a joyous and carefree mood.
The sight of him surrounded by friends and loved ones, laughing and enjoying a meal, makes the news of his death all the more devastating.
According to IOL, two unidentified vehicles were reportedly involved in the shooting which occurred shortly before 10pm. One of the fatalities at the scene was believed to be the rapper’s bodyguard, who was found in a critical state and later succumbed to extensive injuries despite attempts to revive him through life support.
The late rapper AKA’s recent Instagram activity suggests that the evening of February 10 was intended to be a birthday celebration, despite his actual birthday being on January 28. His manager, Thato T Effect, has confirmed the reports via WhatsApp status and expressed regret about the show that took place.
The death of AKA is a poignant reminder of the dangers that come with sharing one’s location on social media, as well as the fragility of life.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to AKA’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace and may his legacy continue to inspire and influence future generations of musicians and artists.
