On Saturday, a security guard was killed in a gunfight with robbers in the Village Mall, a high-end shopping center in Barra da Tijuca in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
G1 was the first to report on the shooting that killed a security guard in Barra da Tijuca’s Village Mall.
The reported incident happened following an attempted robbery of a jewelry store in the retail center at around 18:00. The scene was visited by officers from the Special Operations Battalion (BOPE), the Capital Homicide Police Station, and the 16th DP (Barra da Tijuca).
The source also claimed that a worker was actually held hostage during the perpetrators’ exit but was later freed.
Numerous bullets were fired both inside and outside the mall, according to witnesses who were present.
According to early reports, the thieves were successful in stealing jewels. The amount and values are currently unknown. There are ongoing investigations.
This is not Rio, Brazil’s only robbery instance this month; there was another one involving a robber who was shot by a security guard at a bank.
