Amidst the coronavirus COVID-19 that has affected 20.6M persons across the nations of the earth. As of Sunday, June 21 marks the start of the summer 2020 vacation season, I have visited several beaches in Greece.

Today, Thursday, August 13, 2020, I paid a visit to Pelion villages, Portaria, Makrinitsa and Hania.

Question: where is Pelion?

Answer: Pelion is located in a central Greece, at an area called Thessalia and near the town of Volos there is mountain Pelion (mount Pelion). Pelion was considered to be the home of the Centaurs. It is a unique place to visit every year.

1. Enjoy the bus trip

I took KTEL Magnesias 2;30 pm and the journey was awesome with wonderful views. KTEL Magnesias operates a bus from Volos to Makrinitsa every 4 hours. Tickets cost $1 – $3 and the journey takes 35 min.

2. Weather / Temperature in Makrinítsa during Summer

The temperature in Makrinítsa, Pelion during summer – June, July and August during the daytime, it stays warm, and when the Sun is absent it loses all its heat making the nights cooler.

5. Art in Makrinitsa

There’s a place called The Art Mansion in Makrinitsa, Pelion. A place filled with contemporary artworks and sculptures, with a comfortable blend of local traditions and artistic influences of the previous use as an art gallery. Raw Stone, wooden floors and modern art. The space The Art Mansion is a traditional Pelion stone house constructed many years ago and is a welcoming place.

6. Byzantine Museum of Makrinitsa

You can also visit the Byzantine Museum of Makrinitsa. Is housed in Topali mansion, beneath the central square of Makrinitsa. The mansion was built in 1844 and looks like a fortress. It hosts items depicting folklife on Pelion.

7. Restaurants in Makrinitsa

There are more than 20 restaurants in Makrinitsa. During my visit spring visit, I had coffee with Greek pie and my summer I had coffee with honey cake.

8. Waterfall in Makrinitsa

There’s a natural mountain spring and with stylised lion and bird, water spouts in the centre of Makrinitsa, Mount Pelion. The water is always cold between 80 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit (26.7-15 degrees Celsius).DSC05775

9. Oldest plane tree in Makrinitsa

There are monumental trees on the dorpsplein in Makrinitsa central square from outside and inside. The plane trees are said to be over 1000-year-old.
