Nigeria super Eagles are the latest to be hit hard with the Buhari curse after he call to encourage them on the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations and the event that followed was Nigeria being thrashed out of the AFCON 2022.
Nigeria conceded to a defeat at Roumdé Adjia Stadium by Tunisia after a 0-1 with Eagles of Carthage’s boys prevailing with a second-half goal from Msakni Youssef.
For that reason, many Nigerians have been swift to point out what made Augustine Eguavoen’s boys lose despite all the hard work and hope.
What Buhari said about Super Eagles before the Match with Tunisia:
During a video call on Sunday morning President Mohammadu Buhari spoke with Coach Augustine Eguavoen, Team Captain Ahmed Musa, President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, and Nigeria Ambassador to Cameroon, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin (Rtd).
The President said he told the team, “You’ve been doing Nigeria proud. You’ve been winning. Please keep on winning. The Federal Government is supporting you, and I say thank you to all the technical crew and the players. Please keep doing the country proud.”
What Reno Omokri said about Buhari call to the Eagles:
“Why did NFF allow Buhari speak with the Super Eagles players now! What is wrong with NFF? Have they forgotten what happened after Buhari spoke to Anthony Joshua? Or our Eagles in the last AFCON? Please we want to win. Who has Buhari spoken to and they won? Our boys need to be focused. They don’t need any distraction. This nonsense must not repeat itself! If Buhari wants to call anybody, let him call Tinubu. Enough is enough!”
Tunisia held off a heroic rearguard action from 10-man Nigeria to advance to the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory.
Msakni Youssef netted the winning goal.
Goodbye the super eagles.
