FARMINGTON, N.M. – A viral video from New Mexico showing a terrifying shooting incident has shocked the world. The violent act, which took place in the usually serene city of Farmington, resulted in three deaths and left six people injured.
“This event has shaken our community to its very core,” commented Matt Mizell, the lead pastor of Hills Church.
What Happened
An 18-year-old gunman turned a regular Monday morning into a terrifying experience, opening fire indiscriminately on a residential street and causing widespread chaos. Reports of shots fired near Dustin Avenue and Ute Street came pouring in just before 11 a.m., as per Chief Steve Hebbe of the Farmington Police Department.
“The rampage appeared to be purely random,” Chief Hebbe lamented in a video statement released Monday night.
The horrifying incident unfolded as follows:
- The shooter was equipped with at least three different weapons.
- He fired randomly at various targets, including six houses and three cars.
- The police eventually located and neutralized the gunman.
Victims and Response
Initially, the authorities announced that nine people were injured, excluding the shooter. However, this figure was later revised down to six, with two police officers among the injured.
“I’m just thankful that no one was outside,” shared Joseph Robledo, a neighborhood resident, recounting how his wife and young daughter took shelter during the incident.
In response to the shooting, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico took to Twitter to voice her deep concern and reaffirm her commitment to combating the “epidemic of gun violence.”
The Viral Video
The incident quickly gained nationwide attention after a video capturing the chaos and panic during the shooting started circulating on social media platforms.
“Today is a painful reminder that our work is far from over,” stated members of New Mexico’s congressional delegation in a joint statement.
