Why PUMA Didn’t Renew Wizkid’s Contract, But Signs Davido

PUMA has signed a long-term deal with Davido.

PUMA, one of the world largest sportswear manufacturer has unveiled singer Davido as the brand ambassador who will help promote the company’s business to the African market.
The Atlanta-born Nigerian musician Davido said it an amazing to be made the ambassador of the PUMA’s Sportstyle collections and iconic T7 tracksuits.
Mandy News recalls that the international leading Sports Brands cancelled the renewal contract of Wizkid and unveiled Davido as their brand ambassador on Friday.

On why the company choose Davido as an ambassador, General Manager EEMEA Distribution, Johan Kuhlo said;

“Signing Davido is both a clear commitment to Africa as a key market and a sign that African culture is becoming more and more relevant globally”

“We could not be more excited to welcome Davido to the PUMA family,” he added.

Davido responded by saying;

“I saw the kind of family PUMA had built with the likes of Usain Bolt, Maradona, Neymar, Jay Z, Nipsey, Rihanna, Lewis Hamilton among other superstars and I thought, that’s an amazing family to be a part of! All these contribute to my excitement to collaborate with this brand and take it to the next level in Nigeria, Africa as well as with fans across the world.”

Why didn’t Wizkid renew his contract with PUMA?

StarBoy fans are up in arms after Wizkid did the unthinkable and suddenly unfollowed his PUMA on Instagram.

Recently, after PUMA unveiled Davido as Global Brand Ambassador dedicated fans noticed that Wizkid — who’s followed by 13 million people — had suddenly stopped following all of PUMA brands. The culmination sent fans into a rage as they tried to figure out why Wizkid didn’t renew his contract with PUMA.

Speculation about Wizkid’s actions immediately germinated among fans, who wondered if maybe there was some falling out with him and PUMA.

But what is the real reason?

Maybe as simple as what BTS did to PUMA, Wizkid did the same — last year, BTS ended their five-year partnership with PUMA and signed a new endorsement deal with FILA.

Why?

South Korean K-pop group BTS, aka Bangtan Boys did not renew their contract with PUMA after FILA offers them a deal that met amazing conditions and treatment promised.

The same thing happened to Wizkid, he was offered a staggering mind-blowing amount of endorsement by Tommy Hilfiger. Instead, he did not renew his contract with the German sportswear giant and opted for the Tommy Hilfiger deal.
