Will Smith has apologized to the organizers of the Academy Awards, friends and family for punching Chris Rock in the face.
During the Oscars, Will Smith rushed on stage to punch Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
Will Smith originally laughed, but Jada didn’t seem amused by the joke. Then he leapt to his feet, stormed onto the stage, and smacked Chris Rock.
According to Chris Rock, “I love you, Jada. I’m looking forward to seeing G.I. Jane 2 ” (he was joking that Jada was acting as G.I. Jane because of her bald hair).
Will Smith yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out you fu*king mouth!” when Chris Rock tried to make light of the awkward situation by delivering a joke.
After winning an award, Smith apologized to the Academy in his acceptance speech. He did not, however, express regret to Chris Rock.
“I want to apologize to the academy. I would like to apologize to all of my co-nominees. This is a beautiful moment, and I’m not–I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim, Trevor, Zack, Saya, Demetri, Aunjanue, and the entire cast of the Williams family. Life imitates art. I look like the crazy father, just like they said, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
Jada Pinkett-Smith suffers from a medical problem that causes her hair to fall out.
