The prominent Yoruba self-determination activist, Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been released from prison in the Benin Republic, the Yoruba Nation group says.
Sunday Igboho, 49, was instrumental in the movement of the Yoruba Nation in a bid to break away from Nigeria. He was declared wanted in 2021 by the DSS, just days after his house was raided.
He fled Nigeria by land to the Benin Republic, where he tried to board a Germany-bound flight, but was unlucky as he was apprehended by security operatives in the French-speaking country.
Igboho, who was arrested on July 19, 2021, was released on Monday, March 7, 2022.
He was jailed for several months, but luckily he was released after spending 231 days in the West African country’s prison.
