Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has alerted his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), about a new political movement in the country that is full of young people aiming to overthrow old politicians.
Mr Obaseki, who was first elected governor in 2016 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stated that young Nigerians everywhere are referring to themselves as Obidient and that they do not want to vote for either the PDP or the APC.
While speaking with PDP members in the state, Obaseki said, “I’m sure you’ve got people in your families who call themselves OBI-dients. If we don’t make our party attractive, we are in big trouble.”
One of the Obidients, in response to the viral footage, said, “You understand that Obaseki’s message is subtly telling the PDP to know that he’s not delivering his state for them in the presidency.”
What Obaseki said about Obidients
- The future of politics in this country is changing. I don’t know how you are; whether you are closely watching what is going on, the level of disenchantment with the existing parties. I’m sure in all our homes here, we have so many people now who call themselves “Obidient.”
- I don’t know whether you have them in your house. Let’s ask all those children, where are you? Which party do you support? They say “Obidient.” Do you understand? They don’t want us. They’re not talking about APC or PDP. They are looking for alternatives.
- You see all of them caring for PVCs now. They are not looking at the direction of the APC or PDP. They are looking for alternatives. If we don’t make our party attractive, I do not know what will happen in the next elections.
