West Ham defender pays price for his controversial cat kicking video, after he apologise nicely, with £250,000 fined from West Ham, RSPCA taking the cats, thousands of petitions to jail him, and loss of major sponsorship deal

The controversy over Kurt Zouma’s cat-kicking video shows no sign of diminishing despite the footballer’s apology: as a result of the uproar, he has now lost both a major sponsorship deal and two weeks’ wages from his club.

Today, Adidas announced it is dropping Kurt Zouma as it brand ambassador. “We have concluded our investigation and can confirm Kurt Zouma is no longer an Adidas contracted athlete. No animal should be subject to cruel and unwarranted abuse,” Adidas said.

More than 150,000 people have now signed a petition condemning Zouma’s video.

While Zouma had previously apologised “for the cat kicking video”, he also assured critics his two pets are in good health with him.

“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video,” he said. “I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

A West Ham statement said: “West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.

“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”

RSPCA said;

“Update on viral footage of cats We’d like to reassure people that we’re investigating and the cats are safe and in our care. We have been dealing with this since before the clip went viral online and we need to follow the proper legal process and not discuss due to UK GDPR laws.”
