An Accra Circuit Courtroom has sentenced a 29-year-old Nigerian nationwide to a complete of 20 years in jail with exhausting labour, for theft and inflicting hurt.
The convict, Solomon Okpewho, on the day of the incident, is claimed to have pounced on Monica Kreberi, a waitress at Tse Addo, an Accra suburb, stabbed and robbed her while she was on her manner dwelling after work.
Prosecution’s case
Presenting the details of the case, the police prosecutor, Chief Inspector Samuel Ahiabor stated on March 22, 2019, Solomon Okpewho pounced on the complainant while she was on her manner dwelling after work at Tse Addo in Accra.
Throughout a wrestle between the 2, Solomon pulled a knife and stabbed the complainant thrice on the left arm which was holding her purse.
Solomon succeeded in robbing the complainant and took away money of GH¢200.00 which was within the bag, an Infinix Scorching 5 cell phone and an NHIS card, the prosecution stated.
He stated the complainant raised an alarm and Solomon was given a scorching chase by a mob which succeeded in arresting him and handed him over to the Police.
Solomon was sentenced to 15 years in jail on the primary cost of theft and an extra 5 years for inflicting hurt.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
Solomon pleaded responsible to the costs when he appeared in courtroom on March 29, 2019.
The courtroom presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh sentenced him accordingly. In his warning assertion, he admitted the offence however was unable to refund the GH¢200.00.
