Bandits struck once again on the Abuja-Kaduna highway, abducting more than 20 travelers on Wednesday evening, according to a report by the Daily Trust.

The crime happened in the Iche community, which is a few kilometers from the town of Kagarko. That’s where the bandits opened fire on motorists who didn’t know what was going on.

Shuaibu Yahaya, a local resident, said that the bandits attacked around 7 p.m., right after the end of the fast. Armed with AK-57 rifles, they shot at cars and flattened their tires, then moved from one car to the next and took people hostage.

Yahaya was drawn to the scene when he heard gunshots. His house is not far from where the incident happened.

He said that some cars crashed into the bandits’ blockade, but others were able to turn around and get away.

Samaila Babangida, who is the madaki of Janjala, confirmed the event by saying that Kagarko called him on Thursday morning to tell him about the kidnapping. However, he was unable to provide the exact number of kidnapped passengers.

At the time this report was written, Daily Trust reported that it couldn’t get in touch with the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson to find out what they thought about what happened.

The Abuja-Kaduna highway has become a notorious hotbed for criminal activities, particularly kidnapping. This latest attack highlights the ongoing issue of insecurity along the highway, causing concern for both residents and travelers.

Authorities have been getting more and more pressure to fix the problem and make sure the highway is safe for everyone. This includes implementing stricter security measures and bolstering law enforcement’s presence in the area.

As the investigation into this incident continues, it is crucial that the relevant authorities work together to bring the perpetrators to justice and secure the release of the abducted passengers.

Also, the government needs to take strong steps to deal with the causes of insecurity in the area. This will make sure that residents and travelers can use the Abuja-Kaduna highway without fear.

In the meantime, the public is being told to be careful when traveling on this route and to report any suspicious behavior right away to the police.
