Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, used his annual New Year’s speech on Saturday to urge the Russian people to support his forces fighting in Ukraine and to promise victory over Ukrainian “nazis” and a West that was allegedly out to “destroy Russia.”
Putin portrayed the conflict, which he refers to as a “special military operation,” as a close-call battle for the survival of Russia in a sharp and confrontational recorded televised address that was aired on national television.
Just as the clocks hit midnight in each of Russia’s 11 time zones, the signal was being transmitted to millions of households on state television as families sank into a joyful meal and exchanged gifts.
The Kremlin has gradually moved society toward a state of war, calling up more than 300,000 service members, reshaping an economy battered by a bombardment of Western sanctions, and publicly stating that the fight may last for a while as the conflict enters its eleventh month with no end in sight.
However, Mandy News was able video the of Vladimir Putin’s speech for the New Year 2023 via YouTube.
We made the English transcript of Vladimir Putin speech for New year 2023 for our English readers who do not understand the Russian language.
What did Putin say today in his speech?
“The calendar year 2022 is coming to an end. It was a year of challenging but necessary choices, significant steps toward Russia achieving complete sovereignty, and a strong social consolidation.
It was a year that placed a lot of things in perspective, demonstrated the difference between bravery and heroism and betrayal and cowardice, and taught us that nothing is greater than love for those who are close to us, fidelity to our friends and colleagues in arms, and commitment to our country.
A lot of crucial, perhaps fateful, things happened in the same year. They evolved into the frontier where we built the framework for our shared future and genuine independence.
Protecting our people in our ancient territory in the newest Russian Federation regions is what we are fighting for right now. We are making and constructing together.
The future of Russia is what really counts. The fundamental obligation we owe to our forefathers and future generations is to protect our motherland. Truth in morality and history is on our side.
Our nation and the world have undergone significant and sweeping changes as a result of the last year. Uncertainty, stress, and anxiety abounded.
But as it had done in every difficult time in Russian history, our multiethnic nation displayed great bravery and dignity and stood with the soldiers and officers, as well as all the participants in the special military operation, in both word and deed.
Our conviction that only we, our strength, and our resolve can ensure Russia’s sovereign, independent, and safe future has never wavered, and today has only strengthened it.
Elites in the West have been lying to us about their aspirations for peace for years, including their efforts to assist end the deadly conflict in Donbass. Instead, they actively supported the neo-Nazis, who persisted in using force and overt terrorism against peaceful residents in the Donbass people’s republics.
The West misled us about peace while preparing for war, and they now have no qualms about admitting it out loud and cynically using Ukraine and its people to destabilize and splinter Russia. We have never permitted anyone to do this before, and we won’t now either.
Currently, Russian service members, militia members, and volunteers are battling for their country, for justice and truth, and for solid assurances of world peace. They are all our heroes, and they are currently carrying the most weight.
From the bottom of my heart, I wish a very happy New Year to every participant in the special military operation, to those who are right here with me right now and who are on the frontline, to those preparing for action at training facilities, to those who are in hospitals or have already returned home after completing their mission, to all those currently serving in combat in strategic units, and to all members of the Russian Armed Forces.
Comrades,
I appreciate your brave service, thank you. Your tenacity, perseverance, and bravery are celebrated throughout our large nation. At their New Year’s table, millions of people will be making toasts to you because they are with you in their hearts and spirits.
Many thanks to everyone who supports military operations, including the truckers and railroad employees who carry supplies to the front and the doctors, paramedics, and nurses who labor to save the lives of soldiers and care for injured civilians. I give thanks to the employees and engineers at our military and other facilities who are working hard today, as well as the contractors building fortifications and facilities for the general public and assisting in the reconstruction of the destroyed towns and cities in Novorossiya and Donbass.
Friends,
Since the events in Crimea in 2014, Russia has been subject to sanctions; nevertheless, this year, a full-fledged sanctions war has been launched against us. Those who initiated it anticipated a complete collapse of our economy, transportation, and industry.
Because we worked together to provide a solid margin of safety, this did not occur. We have been adopting actions and initiatives to bolster our sovereignty in the economy, a crucial area. Unquestionably, other nations seeking a just multipolar world order find inspiration in our fight for our nation, for our interests, and for our future.
I think it’s significant that in Russia, virtues like kindness, solidarity, and proactive empathy have gained prominence in the past year. Russians are becoming more and more inclined to lend a hand. Without receiving any official instructions, they band together and act independently.
I want to thank you for being so thoughtful, responsible, and kind. Regardless of your age or financial situation, you have been actively involved in the common cause. You set up storage facilities and transportation to deliver packages to our soldiers in the field of battle, to the citizens of the impacted cities and villages, and you assist in setting up vacations for the kids from the Federation’s newest members.
My friends, you are giving the families of the combatants who lost their lives and gave their lives in order to save the lives of others a tremendous amount of support.
I can relate to how they are feeling right now on New Year’s Eve because I am aware of how difficult it is for their wives, kids, and daughters, as well as for their parents who reared true heroes. We’ll do everything we can to support the families of our dead colleagues as they raise their kids, provide for their education, and assist them find a career.
I really ask that you accept my heartfelt condolences because I completely understand your suffering.
