Peter Gregory Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential contender in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, won the “Man Of The Year” award at the 2022 Leadership Excellence Awards.
Obi received more votes than the other three nominees during a 14-day Leadership Excellence Awards voting period by Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora using online platforms under the watchful eye of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Igbere TV, a leading community TV in Nigeria, organized the internet polls.
Obi won the online voting, which was conducted from August 1 through August 14 and had three other nominees.
He received 2, 428, 403 votes, beating out Abdul Rabiu, the chairman and founder of the BUA Group, who received 1, 124, 172 votes, and David Adeleke, better known as Davido, a well-known Nigerian singer, who received 881, 766 votes.
After withdrawing earlier and publicly endorsing Peter Obi for the honor, the fourth nominee, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the founder and general overseer of Omega Power Ministries, was no longer considered.
The distinguished prize will be given out in November 2022 in Abuja and is supported by the African Union and African Film Institute.
According to NAN, the annual award, which is given annually and is now in its fourth consecutive year, recognizes and honors outstanding contributions made by leaders in Nigeria’s public and commercial sectors.
The occasion honors notable figures and leaders whose contributions to Nigeria’s political, social, and economic realms have been felt.
