Naira Marley In Police Custody For Questioning In Mohbad Case

Nigerian singer and songwriter Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has been taken into police custody for questioning in connection to the death of fellow musician Mohbad.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Naira Marley was detained by the police for interrogation and other investigation activities.

The Mohbad Case

Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioulwa Aloba, was a former signee of Marlian Records, a record label owned by Naira Marley. He died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27 in Lagos State. Following his death, there have been allegations of foul play, and the police have been investigating the case.

Naira Marley’s Involvement

Naira Marley has been linked to the case due to his association with Mohbad and Marlian Records. In a recent statement, Naira Marley denied any involvement in Mohbad’s death and vowed to clear his name. However, he has been taken into police custody for questioning in connection to the case.

Naira Marley’s Claims

Naira Marley has continued to claim his innocence, stating that he had been providing professional assistance to Mohbad after being aware of his mental condition. He revealed that he paid for several scans in a bid to help the deceased singer. In a video shared on Reno Omokri’s Instagram page, Naira Marley could be heard communicating with Mohbad in Yoruba language, expressing concern over his mental state.

Police Investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of Mohbad, and Naira Marley’s arrest is part of the ongoing investigation. The police have not released any official statement regarding the case, but sources say that Naira Marley is being held for questioning and other investigation activities.

List of Naira Marley’s Arrest

This is not the first time Naira Marley has been arrested. Here is a list of his previous arrests:

  • May 2019: Naira Marley was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged internet fraud.
  • June 2020: Naira Marley was arrested for violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations after attending a party organized by actress Funke Akindele.
  • August 2020: Naira Marley was arrested for violating interstate travel ban and COVID-19 protocols after performing at a concert in Abuja.
