Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has blasted Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, for his anti-infrastructure remarks.
Igbokwe asserted that Obi is merely a trader and that he is being overhyped as a presidential candidate.
The Anambra native recalled a previous remark by Obi in which he criticized President Muhammadu Buhari’s strategy for infrastructure development as an economic stimulant.
“You can’t use infrastructure to create economic growth,” the 60-year-old former governor of Anambra State had stated.
He asserts that the best way to combat poverty is to invest in education and the SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) sector.
Igbokwe emphasized in response to the statement that the LP presidential candidate was “just a trader.”
Igbokwe wrote the following in a Facebook post:
- “Somebody who wants to be the President of Nigeria is telling you that infrastructure does not drive the economy in the 21st Century and you are taking that person seriously.
- Peter Obi is overrated in Nigeria. He is just a trader.
- “Obiano built the Anambra International Airport, built the Awka flyover bridge.
- Which one did Mr Obi build in 8 years? “
In response to the report, a number of Peter Obi followers going by the name of Obidient attacked Joe Igbokwe on social media.
