Terrorists Attack President Buhari’s Convoy In Katsina

President Muhammadu Buhari’s convoy was ambushed by gunmen in Katsina State who are thought to be terrorists.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

According to Garba, an attack took place close to Dutsinma in Katsina while a convoy of vehicles carrying the advance team of security guards, as well as protocol and media officers, was en route to Daura for Sallah.

Shehu says that the gunmen opened fire on the convoy from hidden positions, but they were resisted by personnel from the military, police, and Department of State Services (DSS) who were riding in the convoy.

According to him, all other convoy members arrived in Daura without a problem, except for two people who suffered minor injuries and were seeking medical attention.

The terrorist attack on the President’s convoy is the most recent in a string of crimes committed by the criminal element that has been terrorizing communities in the country’s northwestern and northernmost regions.

Here is the Presidency’s statement regarding the attack on Tuesday:

  • “The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
  • The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
  • Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered.
  • All the other personnel, staff and vehicles made it safely to Daura.”
