The indigenous people of South South Nigeria were overjoyed when Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate for 2023, revealed Delta governor Ifeanyi Okowa, a man who attended Edo College and Ibadan University, as his vice-presidential pick.

Smart and quiet and known for uniting his party, he played a key role in the victory of Atiku in the primaries.

But truth be told, it is his cross between the South East and the South South that might have forced Atiku’s hand to pick him as his VP to win the hearts of the people of the South East and the South South.

He was chosen for political and strategic reasons. The People Democratic Party (PDP) will win votes in the South East and South South with him.

Starting with Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, the PDP can win 80% of the states in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers with the help of Okowa.

Okowa is a fantastic fit for the position. His state, Delta, received more votes than Rivers State in the last election.

Okowa was born in the Delta State town of Owa-Alero, which is part of the Ika North-East Local Government Area.

He studied medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan, graduating with an MBBS degree in 1981. He attended Edo College in Benin City from 1970 to 1976.

We think Atiku and Okowa’s ticket is ideal.
