Abdulaziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State, has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.
He dumped the leading party for the opposition party on Sunday afternoon, along with Senator Kabiru Marafa.
The defection of the two powerful politicians from the state in northwestern Nigeria gave the opposition party an advantage in the upcoming election.
Zamfara, which contains over 9 million citizens, is governed by the All Progress Congress (APC).
Mr. Abdulaziz Yari and Kabiru Marafa were received into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by the former Nigeria Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
According to reports, the former governor led thousands of APC supporters to defect to the PDP.
