The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa was found guilty of contempt of court by the Federal Capital Territory High Court because his agency disobeyed a previous court order.

What happened: In disobedience of a court judgment issued on November 21, 2018, which orders the commission to give back to the applicant his Range Rover, as well as the payment of N40 million.

What the court is saying: Justice Chizoba Oji ruled on Tuesday that Mr. Bawa, the head of the anti-graft agency, should be imprisoned in the Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja for disobeying the order and for continuing to disobey the order until he absolves himself of the contempt.

According to the report that Mandy News was able to receive, Justice Oji further ordered the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to make sure that the court’s ruling is immediately carried out.

The EFCC’s attorney, Francis Jirbo, attempted to defend his client’s actions, but the judge dismissed his claims.

The decision was made in a motion on notice filed on October 28 by Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, a former Director of Operations at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Ojuawo had claimed in the application that the EFCC had refused to abide by the court’s decision for the release of his confiscated property in a judgment issued on November 21, 2018.

The EFCC and Bawa were trending on the largest microblogging site when Mandy News searched through it because of responses from Nigerians.
