A young guy from Akwa Ibom state, accused of murdering Iniubong Umoren, told a judge on Wednesday, “My Lord, I do not know Iniubong Umoren.

Uduak Frank Akpan, in his opening statement, denies ever knowing the 23-year-old female who graduated from the University of Uyo and whom he allegedly raped and murdered at his Uruan apartment on April 29th, 2021, according to Harrison Essien on Facebook.

What Uduak Frank Akpan said in court:

  • “My Lord, I do not know Miss Iniubong Umoren.
  • I only came to know that name when I was served with the proceedings of this trial at the Prison.
  • For the second charge of rape, my Lord, I do not know anything about rape.
  • I have never raped anybody. I pleaded guilty because I had fever on that day and my IPO’s influence in the Court.

When pressed to explain what happened the night the young girl was murdered and where he was, he claimed that he wasn’t in the house because he was at his family’s house, and he denied ever meeting her, saying:

  • “My Lord, I spent the night in the house of my relative, Agnes Timothy Inyang at Osongama Estate, Uyo.”
