Owerri Prison Break, 2000 Inmates Escape
At least 2000 inmates have escaped from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Owerri, Imo State after gunmen bombed their way inside and killed an unknown number of persons on early Monday morning.
- They blew up a Correctional facility in Owerri, Imo State.
- They also attacked the police HQ
- They then went on rampage burning buildings, vehicles and releasing prisoners.
The prison is located in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Nigeria, the third-largest city, after Owerri and Orlu. Sahara Reporters says the gunmen also attacked the nearby office of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the state police command.
