The newly redesigned N1,000, N500, and N200 notes were unveiled by the president, which fulfilled CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele’s promise after he made the announcement on Tuesday.
Nigeria has redesigned its currency notes for the first time in 19 years with the introduction of the new Nigerian Naira notes, which were introduced today, Wednesday, November 23.
Meanwhile, Nigerians on social media are making fun of the government, claiming that the notes haven’t changed—only a filter was added.
It appears that nothing was modified to the naira notes in the viral images that Mandy News obtained; instead, color was changed.
According to CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, there would be rigorous limits on the amount of cash that may be withdrawn over the counter because the CBN collaborates with the EFCC to track the intent behind any large transactions.
He claims that the newly designed Naira note cannot ever be counterfeited and adds that the CBN would change the notes every five to eight years to prevent this from happening.
The CBN governor declared that the central bank is now more motivated to turn Nigeria into a cashless economy, as in other countries.
The debut of the new notes will go into circulation today.
But the president made an appeal to Nigerians, pleading with them to accept the new strategy for redesigning the naira.
