Obi Iyiegbu, also known as Obi Cubana had a rough start to 2022.
The Chairman, Cubana group of companies, was arrested in his residential area in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Friday, January 14, on an alleged link to the illegal narcotics business.
The 46-year-old, club owner, was taken to Abuja headquarters of the NDLEA but was released after being grilled for nearly five hours.
Why NDLEA Arrested Obi Cubana?
Obi Cubana allegedly received payment from three convicted drug dealers from Malaysia, Nigeria, and India. Which led the Operatives of the NDLEA and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe into his business.
- “There are suspicions that he may be a drug kingpin. Some convicted drug dealers paid funds into his account.
- “We have been able to establish three of such payments.
- One of the persons that paid money into his account was convicted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; another one that was convicted in New Delhi, India; also paid money into his account while a third person that was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and convicted in 2017, also paid money into Cubana’s account,” a source told Punch News.
Where is Obi Cubana now?
At the time of this writing, the socialite was authorized to go home to get documents that would be presented to the NDLEA as a club owner.
In a recent post on his official Instagram account Cubana said this year he would show the world the real thing he does for a living.
