Finally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed why ex-Governor Willie Obiano was arrested on March 17th.
Obiano was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja on Thursday night, just hours after handing over power to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka.
The former governor was said to be on his way back to the United States, where he had lived prior to his election eight years ago.
Why did EFCC arrest Willie Obiano?
Willie Obiano, the former governor of Anambra State, was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion in security votes, which were withdrawn in cash.
- “Part of the funds was also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state.
- “Our detectives have been grilling him on these allegations. We will keep you updated. ”
What EFCC said about Willie Obiano?
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said:
- “the ex-governor is now with our team in Abuja.”
- “It is too early to talk about ongoing investigation.”
