Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has apologized for attacking his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016, saying he is “truly sorry.”
Footage released by CNN on May 17 shows the 54-year-old rapper assaulting the 37-year-old singer at a Los Angeles hotel.
In an Instagram video posted on May 19, Diddy talked about the incident, calling his actions “inexcusable” and saying he was at “rock bottom” at the time.
“It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times of your life,” Diddy said in the video. “Sometimes you have to do that.” He admitted, “I was messed up. I mean, I hit rock bottom, but I make no excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, and I’m disgusted now.“
Diddy also shared that he got professional help after the assault. “I went to therapy and rehab. I had to ask God for His mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m truly sorry,” he said.
Another camera angle shows Cassie slowly standing up and gathering her bags after the attack, with Combs sitting on a chair watching her. He then throws what looks like a vase at her.
