The death of Keenan Anderson, a young man from Los Angeles, has recently sparked widespread outrage and online protests following the release of a video that has gone viral on social media.
The footage, which was captured by police body cam, shows the moments leading up to Anderson’s death following his arrest by Los Angeles police officers.
Who Is Keenan Anderson?
Keenan Darnell Anderson, a high school tenth-grade English teacher at Digital Pioneers Academy in Washington, D.C., was 31 years old when he passed away. During the winter break, he was in Los Angeles to see family. He was a father and Patrisse Cullors’ cousin, who was also the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter social movement.
What Happened?
On January 3, 2023, Keenan Anderson, an African American male, went into cardiac arrest, sadly died, and it was estimated that he had been restrained and tasered by Los Angeles Police for around 4.5 hours at that point.
Around 3:35 pm on January 3, 2023, a Los Angeles Police officer was told of a car collision that had happened near the junction of Venice Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard in Venice, according to Los Angeles police.
Police Chief Michel Moore stated that Anderson attempted to “get into another person’s car without their permission” after committing a felony hit-and-run in a traffic collision.

Keenan Anderson Video
Keenan Anderson was captured on police body camera running in the center of the road and pleading for assistance from an officer on a motorbike. The police came across persons who pointed to Anderson as he followed Anderson’s lead. According to authorities, the witnesses said that Anderson was to blame for the car crash.
Anderson, who was still in the center of the road, was re-engaged by the policeman. The video showed Anderson in a panic and told the officer that “somebody is trying to kill me,” but it did not show Anderson being in any immediate danger.
As directed by the officer, Anderson stepped onto the sidewalk. I didn’t mean to, Anderson says to the policeman. Anderson may have been drunk, according to the officer’s report. Anderson explains to the policeman that he misplaced his key and called someone to fix his car for him. As directed by the officer, Anderson also took a seat. Anderson responds to the officer’s question about the person trying to kill him by saying: “Today, sir, I pulled a stunt. I should. No, no, no, sort of.” Anderson added that somebody had been attempting to “put stuff” in his car.
Seven minutes later, according to the authorities, Anderson made an attempt to flee. Anderson was seen in the video standing up and requesting water. The officer responded that he would get water for Anderson and told him to sit against a wall. When Anderson insisted on being seen, the officer instructed him to sit on the sidewalk closer to the crossing so that he could be seen. When the policeman called Anderson back, he had already crossed the street. As more officers came, Anderson then fled down the street.
The backup officers also show up as the motorcycle-riding officer soon catches up to Anderson in the center of the road. Anderson reclines, turns to the side, and then makes a brief effort to rise up. Anderson calls out for aid and claims that the police are attempting to kill him as they are seized by the motorcycle-riding cop and two additional officers.
“They Are Trying To George Floyd Me”, I hear. Anderson remarked, referring to the murder of George Floyd by police in 2020. The police held Anderson down and repeatedly warned him to stop or they would use a Taser on him. They also instructed Anderson to calm down. Anderson continually yells “C Lo,” claiming that the police are “actors.” Once, an officer shocked Anderson with a Taser.
Officers shackled Anderson’s legs and put him in handcuffs. “This is an act…They’re not police,” says Anderson. Anderson said after being restrained: “They think I killed C Lo… They’re trying to sedate me… I know too much… They sedated me.”
After being detained, Anderson was taken to a nearby hospital where, according to the police, he passed away from a heart arrest around four and a half hours later. According to a police toxicology analysis, cocaine and cannabis were found in Anderson’s blood tests.
Cause Of Keenan Anderson Death
Anderson was accused of doing the wrong thing on January 11, 2023, by police head Michel Moore following a car accident. Police were urged to use less force by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.
The killings of Anderson, Takar Smith, and Oscar Sanchez, two individuals who were fatally shot by police in separate events on January 2 and 3, 2023, were all the subject of investigations, according to the LAPD.
