One of the suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, ESN, who allegedly assassinated and beheaded Okechukwu Okoye was arrested by police in Anambra State.
Okechukwu, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s constituency, was abducted in Anambra State earlier this month.
Special combat forces apprehended the suspect, whose name was identified as Nnahadi Michael.
He was arrested on Sunday at Amichi in the Nnewi South local government area of Anambra State.
It was learned that a native doctor, who was known for preparing charms for IPOB and ESN members, was among the lawmaker’s killers and had fled while his shrine had been set on fire.
Report sighted by MandyNews.com says during questioning, the suspect admitted to being a member of the assassination group, claiming that they assassinated several politicians.
According to the Vanguard News, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said he had yet to confirm the suspect’s arrest.
