IPOB’s asylum has been revoked by the United Kingdom.
The UK government has declared that members of terrorist organizations in Nigeria’s eastern region, such as IPOB, will not be granted asylum.
As part of its refugee policy established at the time, the UK announced in April 2021 that it would provide refuge to persecuted members of the separatist organisation.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were barred from seeking asylum in the UK, according to a fresh update on UK asylum policy spotted by MandyNews on the government’s official website on May 3.
The announcement has sparked joy and enthusiasm, but it has also saddened and heartbroken members of the separatist organization.
Why did the UK withdraw Asylum For IPOB?
Because of Nigeria’s labeling of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organization, the UK has withdrawn asylum for IPOB members.
What the British government is saying:
- “IPOB is proscribed as a terrorist group by the Nigerian government, and members of the group and its paramilitary wing – the Eastern Security Network (created in December 2020) – have reportedly committed human rights violations in Nigeria (see Indigenous People of ‘Biafra’ (IPOB) and various media articles in Activities and Clashes between the state and IPOB).”
- “If a person has been involved with IPOB (and/or an affiliated group), MASSOB, or any other “Biafran” group that incites or uses violence to achieve its aims, decision makers must consider whether one (or more) of the exclusion clauses under the Refugee Convention is applicable. People who commit human rights violations must not be granted asylum.”
The UK government quoted all the reports about unknown gunmen attacks in the South-East and South-South Regions of Nigeria, which proves they know what is happening in the country.
