A video capturing the tragic final moments of Tanzanian student Joshua Mollel has surfaced, documenting the harrowing events leading up to his death during an attack on October 7.

Joshua, a 21-year-old agriculture student from Tanzania, was participating in an exchange program in Israel, focusing on farming techniques. This educational journey marked his first time leaving Tanzania.

Joshua became a victim of a brutal attack by Hamas militants. The assault occurred in Kibbutz Nir Oz, where Joshua, along with two other Tanzanian interns, was living and working on a dairy farm. The attack, described as a surprise incursion by Hamas, led to Joshua’s kidnapping and subsequent murder.

Tanzanian authorities, with confirmation from Israel, reported that Joshua was killed immediately after his abduction. Disturbing new footage, deemed too graphic for public release, shows Hamas gunmen shooting his lifeless body multiple times.

In a particularly gruesome scene, an unidentified man with a rifle is seen standing on Joshua’s chest, firing eight shots into his body, while others, armed with rifles and knives, are heard shouting in the background.

The footage also captures a group of armed Hamas fighters handling Joshua, whose face is bloodied, likely from a wound on his head. This footage, too, has been withheld from publication due to its graphic nature.

Joshua, the eldest of five siblings, had completed his diploma in agriculture studies in Morogoro. His aspirations included starting his own agriculture business, and his internship at the Kibbutz Nir Oz dairy farm was a step towards achieving this dream.

On the fateful day of October 7, Joshua and his fellow Tanzanian students, Ezekiel Kitiku and Clemence Mtenga, were caught in the chaos of the attack. They were working at different locations and had to rely on WhatsApp to communicate, which abruptly ceased around 10 am.

Ezekiel later recounted to the BBC that he lost contact with his colleagues during the attack. It was only later that he learned of Clemence’s death, whose body was eventually returned to Tanzania.

Joshua’s father, Louito, shared his last conversation with his son, advising him to behave well and make the most of his internship. He spoke of his son’s ambition in agriculture and the profound impact his loss had on the family, evident in their grief and anxiety.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their operations against militants, leading to clashes with protesters and increased violence against Palestinians by Israeli settlers. The IDF’s campaign in Gaza has focused on dismantling Hamas’s extensive tunnel network, which they argue is a tactic for embedding military activities within civilian areas.
