The Nigerian government’s eight out of the fifteen allegations against Nnamdi Kanu have been dismissed by the Federal High Court.
The eight charges were among the recent offenses the Buhari-led administration added to the charges against the supreme leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
What the Judge is saying:
The judge who decided on Nnamdi Kanu’s case on Friday, Binta Nyako, said Counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14 on the instant preliminary objection application do not have any offense.
Counts one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and fifteen would now be pursued against the British-Nigerian political activist.
- “In this instant preliminary objection application, I have read the counts and counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 have not disclosed any offence.”
- Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 show some allegations.
- The court shall proceed to try the defendant on those counts. “
The Nigerian government had filed 15 allegations against Nnamdi Kanu, including terrorism and treason, which he had denied.
For the purposes of the investigation against him, Justice Binta Nyako stated that the abduction of Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria is permissible.
The judge refused Kanu’s bail application.
Nnamdi Kanu’s trial has been postponed till May 17th, 18th, and 26th, when he will face the remaining counts.

Count 1: Assume that you, Nnamdi Kanu, as a member and leader of IPOB, commit terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by making a broadcast with the intent of intimidating the populace.
Count 2: You, Nnamdi Kanu, as a member and leader of IPOB, commit an act of terrorism against the Federal Republic of Nigeria by making a broadcast with the intention of threatening members of the public with a sit at home order.
Count 3: Assume you are Nnamdi Kanu, and you make a broadcast in which you declare yourself a member and leader of IPOB, a group that the Nigerian government wishes to outlaw.
Count 4: Assume you are Nnamdi Kanu, and you make a broadcast encouraging members of the public to kill Nigeria’s security officers.
Count 5: You, Nnamdi Kanu, make a broadcast where you encourage the public to attack officers of the Nigerian police force.
Count 6: You, Nnamdi Kanu, make a broadcast where you encourage members of the public to burn down every federal government facility in Lagos, which will lead to major economic loss for the federal government.
Count 7: You, Nnamdi Kanu, and you import a Tram 50L radio transmitter and hide it inside a container for Ubulisiuzor in Anambra state’s Ihiala local government area.
